Mariko Kakizaki: Dance of Empathy
A dance work for three performers, expressing a wish to connect with others, share our feelings and feel together through the body.
Read the original introduction
During the pandemic, physical distancing and long periods without seeing one another's faces made it difficult to trust others. Yet it is precisely in such times that connecting through our bodies, communicating from the heart and sharing our feelings become important. With this wish in mind, Mariko Kakizaki, who has worked in Japan and internationally, choreographed this work for herself, Yuri Sakai and Naomi Tanaka.
Dance of Remembrance
Dancers including Ryohei Kondo come together to explore memories held in the body and hopes for the future, accompanied by the trumpet music of Itaru Oki.
Read about the work
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Session House presented many performances online because live shows with large audiences were difficult to hold. Through this experience, we discovered new possibilities for dance expression, using the camera to convey the details of movement. Bringing together dancers active at Session House, including Ryohei Kondo, this dance session reflects on memories held in their bodies and their hopes of overcoming the crisis and moving toward the future. The music is by trumpeter Itaru Oki, who died in Paris during the pandemic.
