Gallery “Garden,” located on the second floor of Session House, is a flexible art and performance space in Kagurazaka, Tokyo.

 

The space is used for:

The gallery is about a 1.5-minute walk from Exit 1b of Kagurazaka Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line.
Akagi Shrine, cafés, restaurants, and the streets of Kagurazaka are also nearby.

Kagurazaka Yose - Amateur Rakugo (8th edition)

 

An evening of rakugo (comic storytelling) by amateur performers, in Japanese. No booking is required, but the organiser is grateful for a note in advance so that enough chairs can be set out: shishimo613@gmail.com (Shimomura).

 

26 Ho Ten (26 Steps Exhibition)
Theme: "Ari"

 

A group exhibition by thirty-two artists working in printmaking, painting, illustration and mixed media, gathered around the single Japanese word "ari". The word carries several meanings at once - an ant, "there is", and "that will do" - and each artist answers it in their own way.

Ichiro Tsuruta - 50th Anniversary of Painting

 

Fifty years have passed since Ichiro Tsuruta graduated from Tama Art University in 1976 and began working as a painter and illustrator. This Kagurazaka exhibition shows new work alongside vintage pieces; a commemorative chronicle catalogue and a deluxe 2027 wall calendar are also on sale. F Ten vol.10 - "Michi"

 

The tenth edition of this group exhibition, by eleven artists, takes as its theme the Japanese word michi - a path, a road, a way. The flyer writes it four times over, each in a different script - みち, 路, 道, 途 - and each carries its own shade of meaning. The full list of exhibitors is on the Japanese gallery page.

 

 

Ichie Watanabe Talk Series vol.56 - "Listen to the Voices of Fukushima"

 

A screening of the documentary "Leaving Footprints at the Water's Edge", made by the independent broadcaster OurPlanet-TV about the youngest plaintiff in the thyroid cancer lawsuit brought by eight young people against TEPCO, followed by a talk with Hajime Shiraishi. Held in Japanese; bookings open at 11:00 on Monday 26 October. Full details on the talk series page.

 

Regular at the Gallery

The gallery also hosts two long-running series. Croquis - life-drawing sessions with dancers as models - is held through the year, and the Ichie Watanabe talk series "Listen to the Voices of Fukushima" has been held here since 2012.
